Костянтин Балабанов – ректор-дипломат

Abstract

У статті висвітлено діяльність ректора Маріупольського державного університету, Почесного консула Республіки Кіпр у Маріуполі, професора Костянтина Васильовича Балабанова. Ректора-дипломата, який створив у промисловому Маріуполі сучасний класичний університет, було призначено Почесним консулом Республіки Кіпр у 2006 році. За роки існування Почесне консульство Кіпру в Маріуполі переймалося розвитком політичного, економічного, культурного, освітнього, наукового співробітництва між двома країнами. У статті розглянуто лише деякі заходи, організовані Почесним консульством Республіки Кіпр у Маріуполі та Маріупольським державним університетом.

The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Cyprus in Mariupol was established on 4 July 2006 and headed by the Rector of Mariupol State University, Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor Kostiantyn Balabanov, who created a modern classic university in the industrial city of Mariupol. Starting as a college, over 22 years of successful activities the Mariupol State University has become an important training centre well known both in Ukraine and abroad. The undeniable merit of the Rector lies in the development of a unique model of the university’s international cooperation. In 2004, Kostiantyn Balabanov was one of the first Ukrainian universities rectors to sign the Great Charter of Universities in Bologna, starting a rapid integration of the Mariupol State University into the European research and education space. Nowadays the Mariupol State University implements more than 100 international cooperation agreements with universities, embassies, city councils and other institutions; it is a member of the European University Association, the European Public Law Organization and the Mediterranean Network of Universities etc. Serving as Honorary Consul in Mariupol and Rector of the Mariupol State University Kostiantyn Balabanov promotes cooperation with state and public organizations, institutions and foundations of Cyprus. Over the years of his direction, the Honorary Consulate of Cyprus in Mariupol has strengthened friendly relations and actively developed political, economic, cultural, educational and scientific cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Cyprus.
